It's not everyones cup of rum but Aussie Bush Poetry or Ballads are a thing... Some of our greatest stories are found in this form of story telling and in fact, many of our best country music songs are based on many of the poems written by Banjo Patterson and Henry Lawson.
We do a fair bit of travelling with much of our camping done in out of the way places, so we are lucky in that we don't see too much rubbish or dunny paper.
The following Poem looks at educating some of the culprits that insist on leaving their toilet ticket all over the place... you know who you are, read this and wipe (weep)
In the Aussie bush, where kangaroos hop,
and campers roam, from tip to top,
there's a lesson to learn, for those who dare,
about toileting right, with a bit of flair.
Listen up, my travelling friend,
I'll spin you a yarn, we'll start a trend,
When nature calls, and the bush is near,
You'll need these tips, have no fear!
When looking for a place to squat, in the Aussie bush,
please remember these few things, before you heave and push.
Our bushland is a rare, and very unique sight,
Always tread your lightest, and always do what's right
Walk away from camp and walk away from water,
some distance put between, you should and really oughter,
Our creeks and rivers, require our care,
no poo allowed, on those embankments there.
With your trusty shovel, dig a nice deep hole,
A good foot deep, or thereabouts, should really be your goal,
now drop your dacks, and aim with care, your boots are not your target,
the difference here will depend upon, your name being Bob or Margaret.
Don't burn your paper, or bury it in the ground,
we don't need fires, or crook animals running round
do not be, a moron or a littering dag,
pack out your toilet paper in a doggy bag.
You're nearly done, you've done quite well,
now cover things up, so they don't smell.
Place the soil back in the hole, pack it hard and pack it good,
Pack it down with a lump of wood.
This message, my good camping friend, provided to you with care,
is one I hope you'll take on board, one that you will share,
Tread lightly all you campers, and leave no trace to see,
And the Aussie bush will forever, be there for you and me!
